Schwellen begegnen uns täglich, oft unbemerkt und doch prägend. Sie markieren Übergänge zwischen Innen und Außen, Öffentlichkeit und Privatheit, Nähe und Distanz. Manche überschreiten wir selbstverständlich, andere lassen uns zögern. Sie ordnen, lenken und strukturieren Räume – öffnen ebenso, wie sie begrenzen. Als räumliche Bedingung für Begegnung und Dialog bilden sie eine zentrale Voraussetzung unseres Zusammenlebens.
Die Ausstellung widmet sich diesen oft übersehenen Momenten des Dazwischen. Sie hinterfragt, wie Schwellen unsere Wahrnehmung prägen, Bewegungen lenken, Atmosphären erzeugen und soziale Rollen sichtbar machen. Als Impulsgeber lädt sie dazu ein, alltägliche Übergänge bewusster wahrzunehmen und darüber nachzudenken, wie Räume unser Handeln formen – und wie wir sie gestalten.
We encounter thresholds every day, often unnoticed yet profoundly influential. They mark transitions between inside and outside, public and private, closeness and distance. Some we cross without a second thought; others make us hesitate. They organize, guide, and structure spaces—opening them up just as they define their boundaries. As the spatial conditions for encounter and dialogue, they form a central prerequisite for our coexistence.
The exhibition is dedicated to these often-overlooked moments of in-between. It explores how thresholds shape our perception, guide movement, create atmospheres, and reveal social roles. As a source of inspiration, it invites us to perceive everyday transitions more consciously and to reflect on how spaces shape our actions—and how we shape them.
